PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/CREATOR

NOMINATED: BEST SHORT-FORM FORMAT, BROADCAST DIGITAL AWARDS, 2018

How Not To Die mixes stand out medical advice with compelling stories of survival from a range of life threatening situations: Electrocution, Car Vs Bike, Cardiac Arrest, Acid Attack, Dog Attack, Drugs and Stabbing.

Would you know what to do to save someone’s life?

In this first episode, Dom unpacks the critical minutes after he was unexpectedly attacked with a knife on Christmas Eve in his hometown city centre.

BACKGROUND TO THE COMMISSION:

In 2013, I spent 6 weeks shadowing the leading trauma doctors of London Air Ambulance for the BBC2 series An Hour to Save Your Life. On our first shift in the specialist ‘Trauma Car” we attended 4 stabbings in 4 hours. During the coming weeks, I witnessed first-hand the devastation caused by knife crime, far greater than I’d ever imagined. I also learned how a few simple interventions in those critical minutes after an injury can mean the difference between life and death.

I developed and directed this film to try to raise awareness of some of these interventions. In its first six months, it reached 3.5 million viewers on YouTube.

The concept was recommissioned for three series with BBC Three.
